Free Writing

Posted on March 14, 2012 at 2:00 AM

For today, I thought I'd have a bit of fun.

Ever been given a writing exercise and asked to free write? I'm sure many of my readers have. So with this in mind, I thought it would be fun to see what people come up with.

So, my challenge is to free write your thoughts/ideas on "Does the time change make any difference?" You know when they change from summertime to wintertime or winter to summer time.

Rules:

  • Type in a word document and copy and paste your work into a comment.
  • You have 15 minutes to write
  • You are not allowed to edit
  • You can't spell check or fix punctuation
  • The pen is not allowed to leave the paper, or in this case you can't stop typing.

I wonder if there will be any takers. I'm interested to see the results.

Okay: Ready, Set, GOOOO!

I'll start (seriously, this is part of my freewriting ...). There aren't seasonal changes in Singapore. Only dry, humid sunny days and cool rainy ones. Does that make any difference? Yes. Yes. It makes a difference to my mood. It makes a difference to the trees outside my window, at my public library, everywhere along this little crowded island. I make different choicesas according to the time change. I imagine being in Springtime in England, I imagine being in New England in Fall. I imagine going to the beach (not in Singapore) in Winter. How bare will it be? Will the sea be frozen? It makes a ton of difference to the things and wishes in my mind. In my head, I mean. (How much time has passed? Minutes? Five? Shoot. I forgot to watch the clock.) Nevermind. I'll carry on till I can't any more. It's always like this, isn't it? Carrying on till we can't. But I need to take things a little slower. I can still carry on slower. Time changes at a steady rate. Nobody's rushing anyone. Nobody rushes Time, I mean. While I'm always rushing myself. I think I'm straying from the topic here. A little. Okay, I freewrite three B5 pages every day, so freewriting (I like gluing the two words) isn't unfamiliar to me. But somehow, typing non-stop here is making me a bit nervous. No idea why! Okay, this has been fun. Will take my leave, Terrie. Have a great day!

Claudine, thanks for having a go. I'm glad you tried. I just thought it would be easier to type instead of write, but you've done a great job.
